Composing Colour

Composing Colour (2019), is an exploration of how to represent music visually. Each piece is made using cellophane, pen and printed imagery. Using the photocopier they went though a process of being layered, drawn, reprinted and then re-layered, re-drawn and re-printed, mirroring the process of the different layers of sound components that build up to create music. The use of colour influences pitch and tone. This enables the formal elements in the collage to be read visually and musically in an abstract notated form, prompting people to broaden their interpretation of sound and the impact of sound on visual arts. ‘Composing Colour’ explores three colour series; negative, black and white, and colour, playing with colour and negative space, each purposefully evokes different musical compositions. 1- Resistor 2- Bleach 3- Hue.
